19270_61s_saltpans One of the strangest places I've been to recently, on the upper Mekong gorge in Tibet. Salt wells here have been in operation for at least 1200 years. Three thousand of these pans, built on stilts, are used to evaporate the brine. Shot for my new book Tea Horse Road, published February 2011 by River Books at http://www.riverbooksbk.com/book/tea-horse-road, or Amazon.
